IFWEA MONTHLY BULLETIN June 2004 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dear Friends Welcome to the June IFWEA Bulletin. The last few weeks have been very hectic. Of particular importance has been representation of IFWEA at the ICFTU Projects Committee, the Global Union Federation education officers’ meeting, meetings of the ILO, the Global Network Coordinators Group, and meetings with affiliates and fraternal organisations in Geneva, Berlin, Brussels and London. Many of these discussions were concerned with detailed planning for the work programme agreed at General Conference.
Euro-WEA & IFWEA Events: October 9-12, 2004, Eastbourne, UK Plans are now proceeding for the weekend of IFWEA and Euro-WEA seminars and meetings and the constitutional bi-annual Euro-WEA Conference, to be held at the residential centre of the Transport & General Workers’ Union, in Eastbourne, UK. Eastbourne is on England’s south coast, within easy rail travel from central London and Gatwick airport. After consultation with the IFWEA and Euro-WEA Executive Committees, and partner organisations, we have agreed a draft programme for the weekend (see Oct 2004 event summary.doc]). We are inviting a wide range of speakers and session chairs from IFWEA/Euro-WEA affiliates and fraternal organisations. A full programme will be circulated, along with booking forms, within the next few weeks. In the meantime, please make a note in your diary. All IFWEA affiliates are invited to participate, but would have to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Accommodation, including all meals, will cost £74.00 (approximately €120) per 24 hours. As ever, we are working to very tight budgets, which – at present, at least – do not enable us to offer interpretation for the event, so all proceedings will be in English only. If we do manage to raise additional funds to cover interpretation, we will inform you immediately. If your organisation is able to send an interpreter to accompany your delegation, please let us know as soon as possible. We will do our best to ensure that the necessary equipment is provided.
The IFWEA Education Resource Centre As part of our plans to develop the capacity of IFWEA members to deliver good quality education provision, we intend to develop our web site to include a global resource centre of educational materials, guides and discussion resources, concentrating on:
If your organisation has produced relevant materials available in electronic format (e.g. PDF or PowerPoint files) that you would be prepared to share at no cost with other IFWEA members, please contact the Secretariat.
Global Network Following the successful bid to the British Department for International Development for a second stage, the Global Network project (a joint initiative between SOLIDAR and IFWEA) is set to provide an extensive programme of events between now and the end of 2007, including a programme of national, regional and global seminars. For further details of proposed activities in your region, contact:
