Dear Friends
Consultation on new IFWEA worldwide education programme As announced in the February Bulletin, work has now started on IFWEA’s new project to establish one-year part-time courses on ‘Organising in the Global Economy’, being organised in partnership with the National Labor College in the USA. The first stage, supported by the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center, is to undertake substantial consultation with IFWEA members and partner organisations. Our initial ideas and assumptions are now available in a consultation document drafted by the Secretariat. We welcome suggestions and comments. For details, please see [consultation_framework.rtf], or contact crystal.dicks@ifwea.org.
IFWEA in the Arab Countries HIV/AIDS Workshop With support from NOVIB, IFWEA’s Arab Countries’ region (IFWEA-AC) convened a workshop on HIV/AIDS ‘Mainstreaming’ in Fes, Morocco on 26-28 March. The workshop was attended by IFWEA affiliates from the region, along with representatives of NOVIB, ICFTU and the IFWEA Secretariat. For a full report, see [IFWEA-AC_HIVAIDS_workshop.rtf].
New Trade Union Development Fund British public services union UNISON has announced a new International Trade Union Development Fund, designed to develop the long term capacity of trade unions (outside the UK) or organisations that share the aims and values of the trade union movement. In 2005, the fund will support a modest number of small to medium sized projects (approximately £20-30,000 per project) aiming to build organisational capacity, support unions under severe threat, or work with unions in post-conflict or post-disaster environments. Given UNISON’s public services membership, preference will be given to projects aimed at public service unions and workers. UNISON will consider proposals for 100% project funding or part-funding, as required. Applications should be received by UNISON by Monday 30 June 2005. Further details are available at http://www.unison.org.uk/international/index.asp, or contact Nick Sigler, Head of International Relations – n.sigler@unison.co.uk.
Uniting Humanity: Learning for Effective World Citizenship in Europe Euro-WEA members are invited to participate in a new programme, funded through the EU’s Grundtvig Programme, to develop new skills for learning about global issues – part of the 2005 European Year of Citizenship Education. Adult learning tutors and tutor-trainers from Euro-WEA affiliated organisations are able to participate in one-year courses – a mixture of trans-European residential courses and distance learning. The project is co-ordinated by the UK-based Scarman Trust, with partner organisations across Europe, including IFWEA’s affiliates in Wales. Want to take part? Contact titus.alexander@thescarmantrust.org. Further details available from [uniting_humanity_summary.rtf].
