IFWEA MONTHLY BULLETIN

December  2005

Dear Friends

Welcome to the IFWEA bulletin for November/December 2005.

IFWEA Workers’ Education and Media Workshop

IFWEA is launching a new project on Workers’ Education, Workers’ Media and the Global Economy, with an international workshop to be held in Cape Town on 4-7 April 2006. An introductory summary and registration form is available in English and Portuguese [media_leaflet_english.pdf] [media leaflet portuguese.pdf]. For more details and background to the project, see [ILMNC_project_summary.pdf]. If you are interested in attending, or require further information, contact Martin Jansen, Workers World Media Productions at martin@wwrp.org.za.

IFWEA Africa Informal Economy Project

As the first major event of IFWEA’s project in Southern and East Africa, affiliates are invited to participate in the first Regional ‘Stakeholders’ Meeting, discussing effective organisation of workers in the informal economy, to be held in Malawi on 3-5 March 2006. The meeting will bring together national and international unions, workers’ education organisations and other agencies concerned – along with the project partners in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. If you are interested in attending, please contact mikechungu@yahoo.com. The meeting will be followed by the first Regional Training Workshop for the partner organisations.

SEWA under attack

The Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) of India has become the target of repression by the government of the State of Gujarat, where SEWA headquarters are located and where the union has most of its membership, and is appealing for support. See [sewa_under_attack.pdf] for details.

Executive Committee Meeting – April 2005.

The next meeting of the Executive Committee will be held in Cape Town on 8 & 9 April 2006.

2006 Affiliation Fees

All affiliates have been issued invoices for 2006 fees. Please ensure prompt payment. If you have any queries concerning your affiliation fee, please contact Anne Webley at the Secretariat (anne.webley@ifwea.org).

Affiliates are reminded that they will not be entitled to attend IFWEA or Global Network events if they have not paid their 2005 fees before 31 December 2005, or have earlier fees outstanding, unless prior arrangements have been agreed with the Secretariat.
