This is a profile of the Barbadian study circle .
Michael Gibson lives at Lower Estate, St. George. He works at McBride Caribbean Limited which is an aersol and detergent manufacturer. He enjoys all ball games - cricket, basketball, football to name a few and he loves to play dominoes. He is a member of the Barbados Workers' Union and is also a member of a community development group in his area called Salters Youth Group. Michael is excited about the study circle project and is really interested in finding out how the other study circles. He is also interested in the topic - globalsiation and is curious about the experiences of others in other lands.
Francia Johnson lives in Greens, St. George and is employed at Tansitor as an electronic assembler. She is a member of the Barbados Workers' Union and a social club at work. Her hobbies are going out with her son and sewing. She too is interested in finding out more about the study topic, the other study circles and about the internet.
Bernard Taylor is a Treasury Officer at Barclays Bank. He lives at # 168 7th Ave, West Terrace, St. James and enjoys photography and wildlife documentaries. In addition, Bernard is an avid swimmer, a past member of the YMPC hockey team, and chairman of the Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School PTA. He is interested in finding out about how globalisation is likely to impact on an individual, their workplace and their country and what part each group could or would play.
Juliette Pollard has worked at Tansitor for the past 26 years and is presently the company's Quality Control analyst. She lives at Mangrove in St. Philip and she enjoys playing dominoes and reading. She is an active member of the both the Barbados Workers' Union and the Ebenezer Methodist Church where she takes pleasure in assisting in the organisation of activities. Juliette is eager to explore the international aspect of this project and is interested in sharing her knowledge of know TNCs operate in our territory so that she may compare their methods of operations in different countries.
Philip Allsop lives in Grazettes, St. Michael and is a salesman at Courts B'dos Ltd. - a store which sells household items and furnishings. Philip is a member of the BWU and loves listening to music and surfing the Internet. His main motivation for taking part in the circle is to gain knowledge, and to do his part in assisting in his desire to see small countries being recognised for their achievements.
Madeline Blenman has worked at Courts B'dos Limited for the past 26 years. She is presently employed in the Credit Department. She is a member of the BWU's executive Council, the BWU's Women's Committee and is the secretary of the union's branch in her workplace. Madeline is also a member of the B'dos Cancer Society support group and enjoys exercising, cooking and visiting the elderly.
Sylvia Gaye lives in St. Patrick's Christ Church and is employed at McBride Ltd. as a line operator in the liquids division. She loves reading and listening to relaxing music. She is a member of the BWU and is the president of the union's branch in her workplace. She too participated in the circle to gain more knowledge of the globalisation process and how TNCs operate.
Christopher Best also works at McBride Ltd. As a line operator. He lives at Glenburnie, St. John and enjoys reading, playing basketball and watching football. He would love to find out more about globalisation. He believes it is a serious subject and that the onus is on us to do all that we can to make both the world and the world of work healthier and happier places for all.
EVALUATION OF SESSION.
Participants liked how the session was run - the concept of learning from each other was greatly appreciated and welcomed. The activity - global detector - served to bring the inter-relationships and dependencies close to home and aroused the interest of all. Persons expressed the views of now eagerly looking forward to future sessions and curious to see how much deeper things will all tie in.
