During the regular KNSB press-conference on October 13-th have been represented the content, the aims and the participants in the project.
Our second meeting was attended by 9 persons with facilitator Plamen Dimitrov - KNSB Executive Secretary of "Education and
Qualification" Department. The participants were: Tanya, Nadka, Dimitar, Georgy, Miltsho and Iliana Alexsandrova Denkova - Expert
in KNSB "Education and Qualification" Department. Observers were: Julia Simeonova - Secretary of KNSB National Education Council,
Co-ordinator of PHARE Social Dialogue Programme BG-9313 and Patrick Qeen, England - former Director of the Commonwealth Trade
Union Council, who is involved in the Needs Assessment of KNSB Education Activitities under PHARE Programme.
Georgy
"KJS": The main foreign investors in our country are - Solovey Soda, Dannon, Nestle, Shell, Coca Cola, SCR-Sibelco, KJS - Bulgaria AD,
Union Mellier. The main sectors in which they operate are: Industry, Tourism, Mining, Services, Banking and Insurance sectors. The main
investments come from: Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, USA, Israel, Russia, Norway, UK, Sweden, Netherlands. The average annual number
of workers employed in TNCs is rising. The TNCs respect trade union rights in Bulgaria, for example this is the case within our firm "KJS". The
TNCs respect environmental requirements. In our enterprise the cauldron did not operated and it polluted the environment with soot. The
employer changed the cauldron and sollved the problem. The main issues on which TNCs lobby our Government are: the taxes, the excises, the
duties and the changes of the Law on Foreing Investments. The government's position concerning the TNCs is positive. Since 1989 exists a Law
on Foreing Investmants which has been changed three times till now by the National Assembly. The law offers a number of stimuli in order to
attract foreing investors in our country. About Trade Unions in TNCs: I think that the Trade Unions are in the first phase of action in TNCs and
they are still behind in the field of education and actions' policy.
Nadka
"Granitoid" - EAD (in procedure of buying): The main foreign investors in our country are: Heidelbergner Zement, Holderbank, Solvey
"Marwex", Dannon.
The main sectors in which they operate are: Cement Production, Chemical Industry and Food Industry. The main investments come from:
Sweden, Germany, Belgium and France. All the TNCs are active abroad. For example "Heidelbergner Zement" has factories and terminals in
18 coutries. The "Heidelbergner Zement" mainly works in the field of building materials. The workers employed in other countries are 24 000.
The trends are to rise their number. The TNCs observe strictly the law in different countries and the trade unions rights as well. The measures
concerning environment are supplementary all production process.
Patrick Qeen
The aim is not only exchange of information during discussion but also exchange of materials and expirience with the other study circles in the
involved countries. Each company comes here to share the national market. For the government is hard to create regullations connected with
TNCs because if they are restricting their actions the companies will not orient their interest to the country.
Dimitar:
There is a lack of information about TNCs and National Companies. We have tried to receive information from Agences of Privatization but it
did not given us. They have only information about the number of the foreing companies and sums they invest in Bulgaria.
Our group decided to meet on every Thursday at 13.00 h.
We intend to invite an expert from our Institute for Trade Union and Social Recearch and we'll ask him/her to make presentation on TNCs
strategies.
We just received the good news for many transfer into our bank account.
We will check in Monday our bank account and we'll inform you in case of problem.
Thank you in advance!
