Short summary of discussions

We started with brief presentation of the summaries from other stury circles - South Africa, Estonia and Sweden.

About information from Nestle:

Tanya has tried to get some information but it is not enough. Nestle is TNC which owns plants in five continents. The company headquarters is based in Switzerland. The sales for 1996 was 45 481 000 USD and the profit was 2 557 000 USD. Nestle owns 489 companies in 100 countries. Nestle Sofia AD has 690 workers. The policy of the company is to create suitable work conditions for implementation of the labour obligations, high salaries and motivation to work.

After that we have discussed the material "Hotel workers organisa across borders".

We think that the key points in this case study are:

In connection with "Neighbour to neighbour" we would like to inform you that our church has not indication that it is dealling with such problems. The power of thecompany has not to fear us because we are able to oppose it through the solidarity between unions, trade unions, federations and churches.

We have read the material "To picket, just click it".

This is very good approach which can help workers to solve their problems but our trade union shopstewards do not have at their desposal Internet.

About "Clean Clothes Compaign":

We need an other behaviour guidelines to involve the sitizens as consumers of different goods and services in campaign against TNCs with the co-operation of the Federation of consumers.

Additional materials

Evaluation

The discussion has been interesting for our study circle members. We think that this information is useful for us.

We still continnue to gather information about Nestle.
