Summary of Session 6

Study Circle BUL1 (Plamen Dimitrov)

Short summary of discussions

First, we would like to told that for us joining Bulgaria to the Europen Union is the main political issue like Estonia.

Unfortunately we started with brief presentation of the summary only from the South African story circle.

After that we have discussed "Why International Solidarity?".

The International Solidarity is needed because people have to act together to get more information and to exchange it. But Georgy told that in his company there is any information about European Council Directive. He considers that it is needed to inform his colleagues in the company and these groups and organisations which could be able to be give them public support. Georgy has explained that during the last general assembly have been nominated two representatives of the workers who can present the employee in the European Council. He has asked how to proceed - to wait invitation or to inform about the results of the ellection.
The other participants have advised him to inform the respective bodies. It is needed to have information about international standards and solidarity of employed in similar branches. Our representatives do have a practice to joint internationally solidarity campaigns till now. They took part in citizen movements especially last several years during transitional period. Miltcho told that they have other example. After registration of Pb. parameters in the environment around their plant mothers have organised movement "Save children". It has been good in order to improved the living condition but if the factory has been closed the families would lost their main incomes. Often there are disputes between the interests of the employed and the sociaty. Georgy told that The workers have taken part during registration of the environmental parameters and after that they have increased the percentage of pollution in order to receive higher compensations. The Belgian owner has not interest to research the environmental parameters. Tanya told that during the process of negotiating and signing of the new collective agreement workers have taken part in the registration of the environmental parameters. Nadka: Outside organisations are interested to register often the parameters because this is good paid. Georgy added that KNSB has laboratory for labour protection and safety with new equipment and it is able to support research of environment without using of outside organisations in order to save money.
