Summary of Session 7

Study Circle BUL1 (Plamen Dimitrov)

Short summary of discussions

We started with brief presentation of the summaries from the other study circles - Estonia, Barbados and Sweden.

Like Estonia and Sweden we do not think that it's any reason to act against TNCs because in Bulgaria their workers have good working conditions, wages and they do not have any problems with environment.

During our session 7 we have discussed the programme strategy of action on a TNC. We have agreed to concentrate our work on developing strategy of MDK Pirdop. It has to be implemented in two directions:

I. Within the TNC we think that is needed following:

• 1. To communicate in the framework of the respective TNC
• 2. To establish links with TNC Union Minier branches in different countries, in which it operates
• 3. To contact with corresponding federations
• 4. To collaborate with other Trade Union Organisations in company branches from different countries
• 5. To hold general meetings to receive more information about the activity of respective Workers Council in the company
• 6. To elect Health and Safety committee and delegates which to represent the workers interests.
• 7. To establich links with the shareholders of the TNC

II. With different social groups:

• 1. Ecological organisations
• 2. Mass media
• 3. Local authorities
• 4. Health and Safety controlling organisations
• 5. Ensurance company
• 6. Pension Ensurance Fund
• 7. Women organisations
• 8. Consumers groups
• 9. Youth organisations

Our members are not against the requirements of White Book but they think that is needed to give the possibility to choose between them and the existing social advantages according to the Bulgarian legislation.

Evaluation

The discussion has encouraged our study circle members to enlarge their activities and links in order to inform and involve more interested people and target groups in their arrangements to protect the workers and their families, to develop the production and to keep the environment of the work place and the surrounding.
