I work at the Guinness Brewery in West London, I am the Senior Shop Steward, I have been a member of the T&G for 20 years.
At the Guinnesss Brewery in West London we brew Guinness, Lager beers and Bitter which is a traditional ale, which is best described half-way between a larger and a stout.
I am married with two children. My hobbies are football and golf.
I started the first pilot project of the ITC but because difficulties at work I was unable to take part in the discussions, I have not changed my mind about wanting to take part in the ITC because working for a global company I am well aware of the importance of such companies and welcome the opportunity to discuss issues arising from such companies with other like minded people around the world.
Alan Ridley I am 37 I live in Luton which is about 40 kilometres from London. I work for one the best known Multinational Companies GM Vauxhall Motors, we produce the Vectra.
I have been a shop steward for 4 years, I have worked for the company for 10 years, I started in the body shop but now I work on the engine line.At Vauxhalls we work a " double day" shift that is 0600 to 1400 and 1400 to 1145.
I am married with 5 children from 10 years to 17 years. ( which means that I am always tired) I pay football, we have a football team at Vauxhall's, I also enjoy fishing.
At the moment there many doubts about the future of our plant, and we are in the middle of negotiations.
Obviously working for GM I am very keen to take part in this project.
Paul Stokes
I am employed by Guinness PLC. Guinness PLC is a subsidary of the all to large multi-national group Diageo.
I have been employed at the London brewary for 10 years (to long) as a plant maintenance Electrician. For my sins I also undertake the role of the Branch Secetary at the on site Transport and General Workers Union branch office. I work with my fellow repersentives at maintaning and improving the pay and conditions of the employees on the site, often with much grief.
I am married to the best girl in the world and thankfully have no kids.
In my spare time I enjoy windsurfing, handgliding, walking and carving.
My interest in this project is to understand what multi-national companies are capable of, before they do it. My company is undertaking massive re-engineering which bring considerable pressure and stress to the people I repersent. I believe that this forum will give an insight into multi-nationals and I hope that I will be able to contribute to what is happening.
Des Blake
I am 35 and I live in Watford, Hertfordshire just outside London with my girlfriend. I have a young son, Alexander who is four years of age. I work at the Guinness Brewery in Park Royal, London where I am employed as an engineering fitter. I have recently been elected as a shop steward in the Packaging department and am a member of the branch committee.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my son and also like to drink the odd beer or two. I am looking forward to understanding the impact of transnational companies and discussing the way`s that we as trade unionists can respond to the strategies that are being developed, to our disadvantage.
