REPORT SESSION 3

other groups

Besides similar experiences which have been made in other study circles= countries we discussed about privatisation. It has the same meaning everywhere but obviously a largely differing weight. In Germany privatisation up to now in most cases concerns a limited number of workplaces or services - as described in our first report. (except postal services, which will be completely privatised soon)

But in countries like Bulgaria or Estonia privatisation means a nearly complete change in economics. We found the tasks of our collegues there by far more difficult.

Answer to Sweden: Yes - there are many emplyees in the private sector, too, working on a limited time base. We find this very often in the scientific sector (turning continuous investigations to series of limited projects)

organizing in TNCs

We concentrated upon EWCs. We agree upon most of you have said about pro's and contra's (better information for the workforce, but danger of European isolation)

We found that it is not really a question, - European or global works councils. In Europe the directive on works councils gives a (small, that's true) legal right, to get better information about TNC's. There shoudln't be a question about using this possibility. But at the same time , wherever possible and where ever TNC's are operating in non-European parts of the globe, the European WC's should get their Asian, African or American collegues invited for exchange of the information, EWC's do get on a legal basis.

so far for today

many greetings

Jürgen
