[Session 2] [Session 3] [Session 4] [Session 5] [Session 6]
Hello every one! Sorry, our delay.
We find the codes of conduct as an effective instrument. If all the TNC had a good will to really live up to the agreement. We suspect that the TNCīs like NIKE will use the contract like code of conduct as an argument in their marketing. In the reallity the big TNCīs deal with the subcontractors like a competition and they donīt take any responsibility if the subcontractors will follow the agreement.
We think that the model code of the ICFTU is adequate to the workers needs and demands.
As an complement to the model of ICFTU we suggest that there will be an thorough follow-up the obedience of the agreement. There must be an organisation in the ICFTU who will do inspections at the workplaces to provide that the agreemnt between the subcontractors and the TNCīs observes. The Fair trade label is a very good way to secure the workers demands and make clear to the consumers that this labelling will guarantee the product and indirect put the pressure on the TNC.
A consequence of this will make the price of the product risen, are we willing to pay a higher price?
Now to something else:
During the past two weeks the Labor organisation in Denmark has taken their members on strike and lookouts on the issue of increasing the salery and one more week in holiday (from five weeks to six weeks). The position between the negotiations parts have failed and today the government has legislated against the conflict. This was the end of the conflict and resulted in two more days generally and three days to them who has children below fourtheen years. On friday all the workers has to be back on their place of work. Such a conflict would never been possible in country controlled by TNC.
With regards from:
Ola, Michael and Karl-Eric.
