"Market Rights Against Human Rights: Globalisation as a Challenge to the Unions" was the theme of a seminar organised by the Swiss Trade Union Education Institute (SABZ/CEO) on July 2 in Zurich, together with the Solifonds, the Swiss labour movement fund for emergency assistance to unions in conflict situations. The two main speakers were Birgit Mahnkopf, lecturer at the Higher School for Economy in Berlin, and IFWEA president Dan Gallin. About thirty participants discussed the possibilities for international action by Swiss trade unions.

The SABZ/CEO is the education institution of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB/USS) and the IFWEA affiliate in Switzerland. It was founded in 1912 and offers training and education courses to trade union members in three national languages (German, French, Italian). It also publishes educational, historical and cultural material and has a video lending library. It co-operates with the SGB/USS in trade union development projects in Central and Eastern Europe. DG
